The collaboration could pave the way for a shift in silica production methods and environmental standards across industries worldwide.

MONTREAL – PyroGenesis Canada Inc., a company that specializes in cutting-edge plasma processes and sustainable solutions aimed at reducing greenhouse gases, has announced an agreement between its partner company HPQ Polvere and Evonik Corporation, a global leader in specialty chemicals.

HPQ Polvere’s parent company, HPQ Silicon Inc., announced on July 9 that a letter of intent (LOI) had been signed to explore a new way to make fumed silica from quartz for HPQ Polvere’s Fumed Silica Reactor (FSR) project.

The FSR project represents a new approach to producing fumed silica, a critical material used in a wide array of industries for its moisture-absorbing properties and high surface area.

The LOI outlines a collaboration during the pilot scale phase of the FSR, aimed at validating its ability to produce low-cost, low carbon material that meets Evonik’s rigorous specifications. Evonik has already approved HPQ Polvere’s initial samples, marking a promising start to scaling up production. The collaboration represents a significant endorsement of PyroGenesis’ FSR technology.
